The third stop of our first Nepali outreach took us to a local settlement not far from Pokhara. We had helped the Neo House Church Network plant a house church in this small village some time back. This group of people had been closed to the Gospel for some time, but after an outreach that HASTEN put together, the church was born. Now there are dozens of new believers in this previously completely unreached village. The village leader has even become a believer!
We returned to this village to show it the love of Jesus and to check up on our friends from the area. When we arrived we were greeted by the chief of the village and His family. He shared all that had happened over the past year and we rejoiced that he had recovered from a severe diabetic episode. After our talk, we prayed for the village and began to walk from house to house. We were greeted by one woman who had the joy of the Lord all over her face. It was so intense that we just wanted to hug her! It was amazing. We shared some stories at each house and prayed for each believer.
Afterward, we visited one last home. The monsoon rain had started, and it was beginning to get dark. Inside, we found a very sick looking woman and her son sitting on the bed beside her.
“What’s going on?” We asked. “Ama (mother) looks like she is in much pain.”
“Yes, she has a tumor and the doctor has said it is cancer,” answered her son.
He told us much more about their situation, and we listened. My friends, more than ever, we much learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, we should listen twice as much as we talk. Even the most angered and frustrated person will appreciate you if you listen to their story before spurting out a rehearsed answer. If we listen to the person and the Holy Spirit, we will know how to respond in love. Even quoted scriptures without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit can prove to hurt if tossed our carelessly, but when we take the time to hear the person and the Holy Spirit, we will see more of the Lord’s wonders!
After they shared their situation, we asked their permission to pray. They granted it, so we began with worship, then moved into intercession for this mother’s health. We prayed for her healing, for peace in the home, for peace for the son and the father, and that the Holy Spirit would reveal the love of God through Christ Jesus to this family. It was simple, and gentle, and kind.
The Holy Spirit rarely has to yell. His whisper is stronger than out loudest scream.
Please pray for her healing and that she and her family will truly know the Hope we have in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for this small new church too, as there are already many false prophets showing up to lead people away from Jesus into other beliefs. Also, please pray for the team, that their love will burn hot in the middle of persecution and hard times.
If you look at Matthew 24 in context, it says that we must endure a lawless world without losing our love for the lost. There is a generation that will not let their love grow cold but will keep loving and keep preaching that through Jesus we have everlasting life. This generation, that refuses to grow cold and calloused and refuses to withdraw from this lawless land will be the one that preaches the Gospel in all the world as a testimony to all nations. THEN, the end, what we must endure in love until, will finally come. In other words, we will continue to endure this lawless world until we learn to keep our love and keep spreading the message of Jesus, even when it is extremely hard to do so!
Friends, let’s be that generation. Don’t hide. Shine. Don’t curse the darkness, be the light. And until the very last village has heard the Gospel, stay…
All in for the Gospel,
Dustan (& Darlene)
